2015 Taiwan LPGA Tour | Chung Cheng Heritage Tour (Spring) First-Round Recap
Date:2015-04-15

Lin Tzu Chi (林子麒) shot a 2-over 74 in windy weather to open with a 1-shot lead in Tuesday’s first-round of the Chung Cheng Heritage Tour (Spring).

Amateur Chang Ya-Chun (張雅淳) in Group Girl’s 12-16 (Group B) actually topped the stats by carding a even-par 72. Group Amateurs Women’s 16-25’s (Group A) Lai Yi-Ting (賴怡廷) also outclassed the pros with a 1-over 73 showing.

The Chang Gung Golf Club plays host to this week’s 36-hole pro-junior event presented by Chung Cheng Golf Development Foundation, in which the TLPGA pros are grouped with amateurs and junior golfers, creating an easy interaction for the passing of “heritage” between the experienced and the young prospects, for which the series of events are named. The concept is also one of the main focuses for the TLPGA to nurture future sport leaders.

This week, 43 professional TLPGA Tour members will be vying for a total purse of NT$600,000, with NT$71,000 going to the champion, as 61 amateurs and junior talents compete on the same course.

Lin, a two-time China LPGA Tour winner, wasn’t happy with her round that includes one birdie and three bogeys. “I felt like I had just warmed up my wedges onto the back nine, and the wind returned. It was completely outrageous and the feeling of uncertainty got to my putting,” Lin said.

“I’m actually in pretty good form, just need to be more patient.” Lin takes the Chung Cheng Heritage Tour (Spring) as her final preparation to the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic starting next Thursday. Lin will now head into Wednesday’s final round with a one-stroke lead over Liang Yi-Lin (梁宜羚) and Shih Huei-Ju (石惠如).

Liang had two birdies and five bogeys for a 3-over 75. “I feel this was actually okay considering the big wind,” said Liang. “I struggled a little with my short game during my back nine. But the putting was good, quite on the lines I wanted. So hopefully I get to carry my shots on the right spot and I’m confident I can have a strong finish.”

The 2013 TLPGA Tour Money Winner Lu Ya-Huei (呂雅惠) has found patches of her old form just coming back on the tour for the second event after a hand injury that sidelined her for four months.

“Yes, I am still not yet where I was but I can feel it’s getting better and better,” said Lu, who shot two birdie and six bogeys to stand into T4 with Huang Bie Shyun (黃璧洵), Chang Ching-Yun (張京運), and Chen Meng-Chu (陳孟竺), who swept a double champion at both Spring and Autumn editions of the Chung Cheng Heritage Tour last year.

Players will get the final-round action going tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. at the Center Course and South Course of the Chang Gung Golf Club and Lin, Liang as well as Chang Ya-Chun and Lai Yi-Ting will tee off in the final group at 8:55 a.m..
