The third round of the 2023 WPG Ladies Open was cancelled due to persisting rains. The 72-hole event is now shortened to 54-hole.

36-hole leader Chang Ya-Chun (張雅淳) held just a one-shot advantage over Thai player P.K. Kongkraphan.

Chang, the 2022 TLPGA Tour year-end Money Winner, carded a first-round 65, followed by a 72 on Thursday, to sit in solo lead at 7-under. She is currently ranked 7th on the 2023 Money Leaderboard.

Kongkraphan and Shih Cheng-Hsuan (石澄璇) will tee off tomorrow at 8:30 in the final group with Chang. The first group will tee it up at 7:00.

Within striking distance was Japanese Yuna Arakawa, who sit in solo fourth with just three strokes off the lead.

Babe Liu (劉嬿) was five shots down at 142. She was the best player yesterday at the windy Sunrise Golf and Country Club, posting the low-round 70.

Liao Hsin-Chun (廖信淳) will attempt to grab the low-amateur honor on Saturday. She was the highest-standing amateur temporarily at 3-over 147 and T11 on the leaderboard. Sophia Chen (陳俋儒) loomed just one shot behind her.

Heavy overnight rains at the Sunrise did not allow any play to tee off this morning. The persisting weather conditions forced the officials to delay the tee time five times before the decision was made to call it a day.

It is in fact the first time the WPG Ladies Open is expanded into a 72-hole format in its four-year history. The tournament features a total purse of NT$10 million, more than doubled when it was first held in 2020 (NT$4.5 million), making it one of the richest on the tour.

WPG, an ESG-friendly, global-leading distributor of semiconductor components, is hoping the raise in prize money and the extended four-round schedule will help local players to get a feel of taking part in a global event of the highest prestige, and better prepare themselves for their future pursuit into higher calibre.
