Taiwan’s Cheng Yi-Yu (鄭宜宥) carded a final-round 1-under 71 on the T.H.E. CLUB to claim her second career title at the TLPGA & Tsai Hsing Heritage Tour. Cheng’s 36-hole total of 141 outlasted Chang Hsuan-Ping (張瑄屏) by three shots, and took away an NT$71,000 winner check.
When it seemed like the clubhouse leader from yesterday would carry on with her lead and prevail, Chang, the 2013 TLPGA Heritage Tour winner, made a run on the front nine in the same group with Cheng, closing the gap to just one stroke after twelve holes.
Cheng, despite having pain in the wrist, fought through her back nine and a birdie on the par-4 15th expanded her lead to three shots, and a turnaround just looked unlikely.
The winner of 2011 TLPGA Heritage Tour has to wait for two years to finally reign in another tournament. “I’ve been constantly fighting the pressure in higher level tournaments,” said Cheng. “Like in the last few weeks in the CTBC and the Fubon Open, I felt like I still couldn’t get over my nerves.”
“Although it’s not a very big win, I now feel great relief as I finally lift another trophy; it means a lot to me and it gives me the confidence to continue on trying.” Cheng said.
College student Liang Yi-Ling (梁宜羚) had a 74 and a 54-hole score of 216 has made it pass the TLPGA Qualification Tournament.
Liang becomes the 89th TLPGA member and the only to make it out of the five amateurs in the bid to qualify this week.
The TLPGA & Tsai Hsing Heritage Tour is the forth stop of the Heritage Tour series in the calendar. In these events, the amateurs and junior players have a chance to play along TLPGA pros in the same group, for the purpose of the learning and the “heritage” of experiences, for which the Tour was named. |
