2018 Taiwan LPGA Tour | ICTSI Champion Tour - Tagaytay Midlands Golf Club Final-Round Recap
Date:2018-07-27

A low-round 67 made Huang Ching (黃靖) a three-time Tour titlist. The Taiwanese made five birdies without a bogey on Friday at the ICTSI Champion Tour - Tagaytay Midlands Club to bring her final score to 12-under 204, which won her a third career title at professional level and a $15,000 first prize.

Thailand’s Pannapa Polnamin, Renuka Suksukont, and Supamas Sangchan used matching 208s to sit in equal second.

The recent ICTSI Champion Tour – Manila Southwoods champion Ploychompoo Wilairungrueng wrapped it up with another top-5 finish with a 209.

Lin Tzu-Chi (林子麒), Pan Yen-Ling (潘彥伶), and Jessica Peng (彭婕) finished in a tie for twelfth and 2-under 214. Lai Yi-Ting (賴怡廷) dropped back to equal twentieth after carding a 2-overr 74 to finish at 216.

Hou Yu-Sang (侯羽桑), who finished at 1-under 215, took the low-amateur honor. The 19-year-old is in equal 18th on the leaderboard.

Huang took her first victor at pro level at the Technology Challenge, a 36-hole event, last July. She took it up a notch this year by winning in June the Orient Master Wuhan Challenge on the China LPGA Tour, an official 54-hole tournament. And by adding a second title in just another month, Huang is now a three-time champion in three different countries.

Overnight leader Huang and first-round leader Polnamin were tied until the fifteenth hole where Huang went up with a two-stroke lead with a birdie while Polnamin made bogey. The Taiwanese raced toward the finish line with a fourth and a fifth birdie on hole no.16 and 18 to seal the deal. She made five birdies on Friday without dropping a shot.

“I got a bit lucky on the fifteen with that chip-in on right off of the green which kind of released all the pressure,” said Huang. “I was really nervous coming into today as the leader.”

Players were allowed to have preferred lies as a short but heavy rain struck and stopped play from 9:30 to 10:45. Fog and light drizzles remained a factor to overcome around noon.

“It wasn’t the best start for me, with the bugging rains here and there, but I think I hung tough and played better as the tournament progressed, so I’m really proud of myself, especially under this circumstance with the tension, I was playing very solid today in the final round, didn’t make much wrong,” said Huang. “Putting was key. It was so much better than last week. I saved par with long putt on the ninth which was very important for my confidence.”

Hou Yu-Sang’s sister Yu Chiang (侯羽薔) closed with a decent 3-under 69 to finish in a tie for 23rd and 1-over 217. She was a co-runner-up last week at the Manilla Southwoods Golf & Country Club.

The Tagaytay Midlands Club event is the seventh leg of the 2018 TLPGA Tour and serves as the eleventh stop on the LPGT. The total purse of the event is $75,000.
