2025 Taiwan LPGA Tour |Taiwan Mobile Ladies Open 17 – 19 Dec Second-Round Recap
Date:2025-12-18

Day 2 at the TLPGA Tour and KLPGA Tour co-sanctioned Taiwan Mobile Ladies Open saw Korea’s Jeong Seul-Gi deliver a stunning bogey-free 65, carding one eagle and five birdies, and put herself to the top of the leaderboard ahead of Friday’s finale.

Trailing by just one stroke were five-time 2025 TLPGA Tour winner P.K. Kongkraphan, her Thai compatriot Nook Sukapan, and local hopeful Chen Min-Jou (陳敏柔).

First-round leader Phoebe Yao (姚宣榆) slipped into a tie for fifth alongside Kwon Seo-Yeon after a second-round 71. Meanwhile, defending champion Hsu Wei-Ling (徐薇淩) remained steady with a Thursday 70, maintaining her position in a tie for seventh alongside Hwang Yeon-Seo.

After hovering above par on Wednesday, Jeong Seul-Gi found her attacking rhythm today at the Taifong Golf & Country Club. Her back nine was particularly impressive, where she fired a blistering 30 to reach the clubhouse at 6-under par after 36 holes.

The 30-year-old Korean’s shot of the day came on the par-5 17th. After reaching the green in two with her 4-iron, she drained a 30-footer for eagle to claim the lead. "I thought I hit it too hard, but the line was perfect and it went straight in," Jeong said.

Last week’s Taya Group Ladies Open champion P.K. Kongkraphan is on the verge of a historic feat—securing a sixth TLPGA victory in a single season. She remained rock-solid in the second round, carding a bogey-free 69. A few missed opportunities on the greens left her one shot back, placing her in the second-to-last group for Friday’s final round.

"This is my last full season on the TLPGA Tour before I transition to the KLPGA Tour next year," Kongkraphan shared. "I’m surely hoping for a fairytale ending."

Joining the final leaders’ group is Thailand’s Nook Sukapan, who fired six birdies to reach 5-under par. "My putting felt very smooth today. The pace and distance control were exactly how I wanted them," said Sukapan, who is looking to snap a two-year title drought.

Among the Taiwanese contenders, Chen Min-Jou (陳敏柔) was the standout performer. She recorded six birdies, offset by one bogey, to earn her spot in the final pairing alongside Jeong and Sukapan.

"My driving was very accurate today, leaving me with comfortable distance for my approach shots," Chen said. Despite the slick greens at Taifong, which measured 10.6 today, Chen’s strategy paid off. "I managed to keep my ball below the hole, leaving myself with mostly uphill putts. Overall, I’m very happy with my round."

Overnight co-leader Phoebe Yao had a flying start, carding three birdies in her first six holes to extend her lead. However, the momentum shifted on the 8th—the same hole where she recorded a spectacular ace on Wednesday—when she stumbled with a bogey. This setback disrupted her tempo apparently, and a few more dropped shots on the back nine saw her finish the day at just 4-under par, now trailing the lead by two.

"I’ll need to stay aggressive and hopefully make more birdies to stand a chance," she said, eager to recapture the winning feeling of her 2022 Shizuoka Shimbun & SBS Ladies victory on the JLPGA Step-Up Tour.

Two-time Taiwan Mobile Ladies Open champion Hsu Wei-Ling is lurking three shots back of lead. After a sluggish front nine with 1-over 37, Hsu found her spark on the back nine, firing a flawless 33 to card a round of 70. Hsu, who recorded three top-10 finishes on the LPGA Tour this year, admitted that luck wasn’t on her side during her three-bogey front nine.

However, Hsu remains confident about her position at 3-under par. "When I won here last year, I wasn’t in the final group either," Hsu said. "I actually enjoy being under the radar. It takes the pressure off. I’m hoping to pull another come-from-behind victory tomorrow, just like I did last year."

2018 title holder Lee Min (李旻) managed to secure her spot for the weekend, making the cut in T38 on a 36-hole total of 4-over par, while 2023 winner Juliana Hung (洪玉霖) struggled and finished today on 7-over par. With the cutline set at 5-over, Hung was among those who failed to advance, missing out on the 52-player list for the final Friday.

This 9th annual edition of the Taiwan Mobile Ladies Open marks a significant milestone as the total prize purse has been boosted from NT$8 million to NT$10 million. It also marks the historic return of collaboration between the TLPGA Tour and the KLPGA Tour. The 108-player international field features 48 elite competitors from the KLPGA Tour, recognized as one of the world’s top four tours alongside the LPGA, JLPGA, and LET (Ladies European Tour).
