The Taiwan LPGA and the Japan LPGA held a joint press conference in Taipei today to announce that the Foxconn TLPGA Players Championship will be officially upgraded to the co-sanctioned Taiwan Foxconn Ladies Golf Tournament starting this year. 

Launching on Mar 12, the competition sees its total prize pool climb from US$1.5 million to US$2 million. This partnership represents a landmark moment, ending a 48-year wait for a JLPGA Main Tour stop in Taiwan. It also marks a significant first for the Japanese organization, as it establishes an official overseas tournament venue for the first time in 46 years.

Foxconn (Hon Hai Technology Group) has been a driving force behind the local game’s development since 2024. Driven by a joint effort by Japan’s SoftBank Corp., the tech giant’s continued commitment has now transformed the event into a premier fixture on the international calendar. The Taiwan Foxconn Ladies Golf Tournament boasts the second-largest purse on the 2026 JLPGA Tour.

As the highest-level women’s golf circuit in Asia and the second biggest in the world, the JLPGA Tour has cultivated pioneering Asian legends such as Hall-of-Famer Hisako Higuchi, and former World No.1 Ai Miyazato.

Among these JLPGA Tour’s iconic figures is Taiwan’s own Tu Ai-Yu (涂阿玉). Her illustrious career included 71 titles and 7 Order of Merit honors. With a staggering 115 professional victories worldwide, Tu holds the all-time record for career wins in the sport—a feat that remains unmatched by any golfer, male or female.

TLPGA Chairwoman Huang Bie-Shyun and JLPGA Vice President Takako Matsuo came together today at The Okura Prestige Taipei to mark this historic new chapter for women’s golf in Taiwan.

Joining the announcement in Taipei, Takako Matsuo shared, "we’ve been deeply impressed by the exceptional quality of the events Foxconn and the TLPGA have built over the past two years. We are truly excited to bring Japan’s top talent to Taiwan in March for a world-class competition."

Yui Kawamoto, the year-end No.3 on the 2025 JLPGA Tour, added a festive touch to the press conference by crafting a traditional New Year couplet. It was a warm gesture to share New Year blessings with the fans, while also hoping for a bit of luck when she returns to compete in March.

Meanwhile, Foxconn’s own ambassador golfer Wu Chia-Yen (吳佳晏) is set to kick off her 2026 season at this very event. Coming off a stellar 2025 JLPGA Tour campaign in which she finished No.13 on the Money Leaderboard, Wu is eager to keep that momentum going and clinch another JLPGA Tour title on home turf after her victory at the Daio Paper Elleair Ladies Open.
