Taiwan’s Yang Ya-Pin (楊亞賓) fired a flawless, bogey-free 5-under 67 at Suncity Golf Club to take the opening-round lead at the YTS & SUNCITY Futures, a three-round, NT$1.2-million TLPGA Tour Futures-level event.

TLPGA Tour rookie Ruby Chou (周翊庭) and Japan’s Harumi Yoshikuwa both mixed six birdies with two bogeys to card matching 68s, sitting just one stroke off the pace in a tie for second.

Suncity Golf Club’s own amateur talent Ku Min-Chun (古旻錞) and 2026 Taiwan Prosperity Open champion Yu Han-Hsuan (俞涵軒) sit another shot adrift in a tie for fourth after posting 3-under 69s.

Yang was thrilled to carry her strong momentum from the first half of the season into day one of the 2026 YTS & SUNCITY Futures and immediately make a statement performance. “It was scorching hot today, but the course is in great shape, firm and dry, which gave my shots extra roll and made hitting greens easier,” said Yang, who hit 16 greens during her round. “The grain on the greens was tricky to read, though. The lines and speeds weren’t quite what I expected, so I let a couple of birdie chances slip away. Luckily, I was still able to sink five.”

Although Yang has found herself up high on the leaderboard multiple times this season, she is still chasing that elusive breakthrough victory. She shared that she and her older sister, Yang Fei-Chien (楊斐茜), started a new fitness routine this year. “It has helped me become more flexible and connected through my swing, improving my overall coordination and energy transfer,” Yang explained. “I’ve gained extra distance off the tee, which is extremely important. It gives me an edge to have more scoring opportunities.”

Ruby Chou set herself up for the success opener with a stellar driving display. “The fairways on the front nine were pretty tight today, so tee shots were crucial. Fortunately, I was hitting them well, leaving myself shorter approaches and taking a lot of pressure off my shoulder,” Chou said. “My putter felt good too, rolling in plenty of birdies. It was just a little shame I made a three-putt on the 18th and missed out on a perfect finish.” Aside from a sand trap mishap on the 5th, which resulted in the other of her two bogeys on the day, Chou put together an impressive six-birdie round.

For Yoshikuwa, it was her best opening-round start in quite some time. Starting on the back nine, the Japanese quickly reeled off three birdies before she stumbled slightly after the turn, dropping strokes to a tricky downhill putt on no.2 and an ill-executed chip from off the green on no.7. To her credit, she bounced right back with a birdie on the par-3 no.8 to secure a place to start in Thursday’s final group.

Defending champion Jessica Peng (彭婕) delivered an even-par 72 on Wednesday, and she is now tied for nineteenth.

The course is set at 6,221 yards for the week, with green speeds averaging 7.4 feet on Wednesday. The second round will get underway at 6:30 a.m. tomorrow.

This marks the tenth staging of the YTS & SUNCITY event on the TLPGA Tour, and its second year as a 54-hole Futures tournament. The winner on Friday will walk away with a NT$210,000 champion’s check. Additionally, the top two finishers this week who haven’t already qualified for the 2026 KENDA Tire TLPGA Open will earn wildcard exemptions into the main field.
