2025 Taiwan Prosperity Ladies Open and CTBC Ladies Open champion P.K. Kongkraphan shone in the opening round of the TrustGolf Asian Mixed on Wednesday, where she carded a 7-under 64 to share the lead with fellow TLPGA Tour member Phoebe Yao (姚宣榆) and male player Natchapol Srinoon.
This is the third and final leg of the three TrustGolf Asian Mixed Series Thailand events, organized by the TrustGolf Tour and jointly sanctioned by the TLPGA Tour and the Taiwan PGA Tour.
Taiwan’s Wang Li-Ning (王莉甯) is trailing by one shot on 6-under 65, sitting in a tie for fourth. Cholcheva Wongras, who finished in a tie for fifth as the lowest female contestant in the second leg this past weekend, sit another shot adrift in equal fifth.
Chen Hsuan (陳萱) and An Ho-Yu (安禾佑) also finished the first-round in the top-10 on the leaderboard.
Starting on the back nine, Yao dropped two birdie putts and maintained a steady pace to keep herself in the front pack. And after the turn, the two-time Japan LPGA winner stepped up a notch, firing six more birdies to find herself in the lead.
“It was very windy, and the wind was coming from all directions. I felt I was more settled into the conditions after the turn, and started to put the ball in some really good spot, which gave me lots of easy opportunities on the green,” said Yao.
Local favorite P.K. Kongkraphan also shot eight birdies and one bogey to emerge at the top. “I was feeling fresh and playing well! I did not have a particularly good week during the second leg last week, and I knew I had to put the disappointment aside and reset,” said Kongkraphan, who finished in T50 at the Lake View Resort & Golf Club this past Saturday. “I’m really happy how I rebuilt the confidence and delivered my best aggressive game. Hopefully this form can last till Friday!”
Wang Li-Ning made just nine fairways but was super clutch with her short game to again put herself up as a contender for a third straight attempt during this TrustGolf Asian Mixed Series. She made seven birdies today and committed an only bogey on the par-5 fifth hole. “I will have to improve my fairway percentage and I believe I can really make some damage right here. I’m feeling great about my game at the moment. I think my yardage control was very good,” Wang said.
Again, 40 TLPGA Tour elites, 40 TPGA Tour men, and 52 local golfers who have performed well at the TrustGolf qualifying events returned at the Lake View Resort & Golf Club in Cha-am, Thailand this week for the mixed series event. Only one among the 132 players will walk away with the TBH$750,000 top prize after the 54-hole battle. A cut will be made to the top-60 and ties after tomorrow’s second round. |
