Local golfer Tawit Polthai claimed his second victory of the season at the TrustGolf Asian Mixed today with a winning total of 18-under 195. Thai woman Cholcheva Wongras fired a final-round 5-under 66 to finish in a tie for fifth on 13-under 200 as the lowest female contestant.

First-round co-leader Wang Li-Ning (王莉甯) wrapped it up as the top Taiwanese woman in T15. She registered a final-round 67 at the Lake View Resort & Golf Club to finish on 9-under 204.

This week, the second leg of the three TrustGolf Asian Mixed Series Thailand events was in action at the Lake View Resort & Golf Club in Cha-am, Thailand, which is organized by the TrustGolf Tour and jointly sanctioned by the Taiwan LPGA Tour and the Taiwan PGA Tour. 132 players from the three tours compete for the same prize fund of TBH$5 million, with today’s winner taking home a TBH$750,000 first prize.

Cholcheva Wongras has become a fresh new face on the TLPGA Tour this year. “I took this more of a fun mixed event as an opportunity to test out my new set of clubs, and they’ve been working incredibly well,” said Wongras. She shot two consecutive 67s on the first two days to come into Saturday in equal eighth place, before she brought it even up a notch and went one shot lower for a 66 to finish in the top-5.

“It could have been an even better ending, though. My tee shot on the 18th flew to the right, and that took me three more attempts to reach the green. I was proud I managed to one-putt to minimize the loss to just one shot.

“It’s been a cool week. You don’t often have the chances to have male players as your playing partners during an official competition. They were bombing 320-330 yards tee shots at will,” Wongras added. “I felt like I was pushing my limits to hit as far as them. You almost felt you got a point to prove, and that added spice and made this event all the more fun!”

Wang Li-Ning overcame her putting woes yesterday to finish with a 4-under 67, bringing her back up on the final leaderboard. “Yeah, 28 putts was already a big improvement from the last round. I still felt like I left some birdies out on the course, but I also made a fair amount of important par putts. I was happy with the way I finished it,” said the Taiwanese player.

Taiwan’s Phoebe Yao (姚宣榆), Hung Jo-Hua (洪若華), and Chang Tzu-Yi (張子怡) managed to squeeze into the final top-30 after carding 69, 69, 70 in the final round respectively.

Players will now take a few days of rest and return to the third and final leg of the TrustGolf Asian Mixed Series Thailand at the Lake View Resort and Golf Club next Wednesday.
