2018 Taiwan LPGA Tour | TLPGA Ladies Open - Nan Pao Tournament Preview
Date:2018-05-22

The TLPGA Ladies Open - Nan Pao is set to take place May 23-25 in Tainan, Taiwan. The Nan Pao layout will play host to the TLPGA Tour event for the first time.

Nao Pao Glof Club, dedicated to propelling golf development in Taiwan and a loyal sponsor on the TPGA Tour and the Senior Tour, is primed and ready for a stellar women’s field – for the first time - of hungry players looking to cap a TLPGA three-week stretch with a big win. Friday’s winner of the NT$3 million TLPGA Ladies Open - Nan Pao will earn a NT$540,000 prize check and the runner-up takes home NT$288,000.

This is the fifth leg of the 2018 TLPGA Tour, featuring 62 pros from Japan, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, United States, and Taiwan, plus 25 juniors and amateurs.

Chief among the 87 players from seven countries will be Chen Yu-Ju (陳宇茹), winner of the CTBC Ladies Classic in March and no.2 on the 2017 year-end money list. In addition, Japan’s Step Up Tour members Hsieh Yu Ling (謝瑀玲), Chen I-Wen (陳依妏), and Chen Szu-Han (陳思涵) will be teeing it up on Wednesday. Chen Szu-Han is just coming off a sudden-death playoff defeat last Friday to Hana Wakimoto at the SAMPO Ladies Open.

Lee Hsin (李欣), who has been one of the stand-out performers with T3 and T5 showings in the last two weeks, will join the field as well. In fact, seventeen of the top-20 on the TLPGA Tour money list will be in the ropes this week.

A Pro-Am took place under clear, sunny sky on Tuesday joined by 18 TLPGA Tour pros and more than 50 amateur golfers, which was played in an 18-hole scramble format. The quartet led by Mimami Levonowich finished atop the final standings with a 10-under 62 score.

Play will begin at 7:00 a.m. from the first and tenth tees with the last group teeing up at 9:20. The event will be played on the A and B Course at Nan Pao. A cut will be made to top 50 and ties after 36 holes on Thursday.

Set at 6,211 yards long for this week’s tournament, the Nan Pao Golf Course is located in Danei Dist., Tainan City. Built with investment from Nan Pao Resins Group, the 27-hole course consisting of A, B, C sections is perfectly blended in nature and surrounded by a stream which is nicely offset by groves of big-leafed mahogany, camphor and hoop pine trees.

Most of the course is oriented north-south to avoid players needing to hit directly into the sun. Nearby attractions include Tsoumalai Farm, Zengwun Reservoir, Nanyuan Resort Farm, Guanziling Hot Spring, and Tainan National University of the Arts.
