Taiwan’s Tsai Pei-Ying (蔡佩穎) won her second consecutive TLPGA Tour title today at the Hitachi Air Conditioning Ladies Classic at Sunrise Golf & Country Club. The 36-hole leader left no chance for her rivals with a steady final-round 69 and claimed the four-shot victory at 6-under 210. The win is worth NT$2.5 million.
Eight-time TLPGA Tour winner, Thailand’s P.K. Kongkraphan recovered from a first-round 75 to finish as the runner-up on 2-under par with a second-round 69 and a 70 on Sunday.
Off in the final group today, Chen Chih-Min (陳之敏) used two birdies on the back nine to make up for her early bogeys and finished in solo third on 1-under 215 with a final-round even-par 72.
Tsai ended her 2024 TLPGA Tour season on a high note with a victory at the Taya Group Ladies Open, and she has brought that form into the new year. She picked up a pair of birdies on the par-3 fourth and par-4 fifth to build a four-stroke lead and well maintained that margin en route to winning.
Tsai made an only bogey on No.17 but quickly scored a birdie on No.18 to close on 6-under, earning a symbolic champion’s “Aqua Blue Jacket”. This is her second win at the HALC after 2022.
“I felt great. I made very few mistakes,” said the 34-year-old Japan LPGA campaigner, who missed just four greens. “Winning in the first week of the new year is just an incredible feeling. I can’t wait to see what the new season brings.”
Tsai will have a short stay and rest in Taiwan with family and friends before heading to LET’s (Ladies European Tour) Saudi Ladies International in February. Her next scheduled TLPGA Tour tournament will be the Foxconn TLPGA Players Championship.
P.K. Kongkraphan, starting the day in equal fourth and three shots back of lead, tried to take advantage of the good weather and came in the day with plenty of firepower. The Thai star sank three birdie putts on the front nine, keeping up the tempo with Tsai, but two early bogeys on the back nine killed her slim winning hopes.
“I played more of a safe game in the previous rounds, but this is the final round and my final chance. I decided to take some risks,” said Kongkraphan. “It was unfortunate I could not keep the momentum going on the back nine, but I could be proud I finished strongly with a great birdie.” With the final-hole birdie, Kongkraphan emerged in solo second on 2-under, cashing a NT$1.2 million runner-up check.
Chen Chih-Min fell out of contention after dropping two shots in the first three holes. “I was too nervous, couldn’t really find my range. I finally felt a little better after sinking my first birdie putt on the 10th hole. And I believe I played an awesome game after that, keeping all the putts simple and short,” said Chen, who slipped down one spot and finished in solo third on 1-under par.
Returning from a left wrist injury that forced her out of the Wistron Ladies Open midway, Chang Tzu-Yi (張子怡) made an impressive rise into solo fourth after she turned in a low-round 68. “ I rolled the ball really well on the greens today, which was a surprise. I had a tough past three months trying to rehab my left wrist. And I wasn’t even sure if I could play through this week healthy,” said Chang. “Here I am with a top-5 finish. I can give a pat on my own shoulder. The prize money certainly helps cover the medical costs.”
The 17th annual Hitachi Air Conditioning Ladies Classic is one of the longest running TLPGA Tour events. It returns to the Sunrise Golf & Country Club as the 2025 Taiwan LPGA Tour gets rolling. Annual proceeds from the tournament will be used to endow local charities. Over the past sixteen years, the donation amount has reached well over NT$100 million. This year’s donation will benefit eleven charitable organizations in the Taoyuan area.
