2013 Taiwan LPGA Tour Yeang Der TLPGA Ladies Open Second Round Recap
Date:2013-01-25

One time Tour titlist Yao Hsuan-Yu (姚宣榆) brought a perfect bogey-free 66 second round to head into the final day of the Yeang Der TLPGA Ladies Open with a two-shot lead over first-round leader Chang-Hee Lee. Yeang Der TLPGA Ladies Open has a NT$3,000,000 purse and the winner gets NT$600,000 first-place prize check.

It was like heaven to hell at the Tong Hwa Golf & Country Club as players suffered a cold and windy condition and only five out of 84 were able to card an under-par score compared to yesterday’s 20.

Yao, who conquered this Tong Hwa Golf & Country Club three months ago at the Fubon Ladies Open and took away her first tour victory, is certainly no stranger to the drastic weather change. “I guess that I had some knowledge on this course so the wind doesn’t really post a challenge for me.”

Yao scored remarkable four birdies plus an eagle on par-5 17th. Her back-nine 31 also equaled her personal best on the JLPGA Tour last June. First-round leader Lee posted a steady round with an even-par 72 under tough conditions and is now 2-shot short in solo second place.

Kuo Ai-Chen (郭艾榛) hit 73 today and stood at third with 4-under 140. “The weather change is crazy,” said Kuo. “It’s difficult out there. The course feels a lot longer with the wind and I’ve got to be really patient to adjust the entire layout again.” Kuo will be teeing off in the final group with good friend Yao in tomorrow’s final round.

LPGA player Amy Hung (洪沁慧) came into this week’s competition with a back strain, and the weather today didn’t help at all. Low temperature restrained her swing motion as she was all over the place on the front-nine with an 8-over 44. There was great improvement with 1-over on the back course and she ended up with a 9-over 83, dropping to a tie for 31st.

The cut line was at 10-over 154 and 64 players made it to the final third round.
