2013 Taiwan LPGA Tour Technology Cup Second Round Recap
Date:2013-06-01

Taiwan’s Hsu Wei-Ling (徐薇淩) shot a 1-under 71 to take the second-round lead at the Hsin Chu Golf Country Club at the Technology Cup, including a chip-in eagle on par-5 9th. First-round leader Shih Huei-Ju (石惠如) ran a little bit out of gas with the heat on the back nine, giving away 5 bogeys and her top position.

Hsu started off with a bogey but recovered well with a birdie and an eagle on the only two par-5 holes on her front nine. Although Hsu closed the round with two disappointing bogeys, the Tour rookie was still the only player of the day to give an under-par result.

“I hit good irons all day except maybe the last two or three holes,” Hsu said. “The ball went pretty much the way I wanted it to be most of the time, so it was nice.”

“You know especially on this course, playing safe is really important,” Hsu added. “I’ll just try to not think too much about tomorrow and play it steady on every shot.” Hsu’s best TLPGA result was a tie for no.5 at the Hitachi Ladies Classic in January.

First-round leader Shih didn’t play to her expectation and made five bogeys on the back nine. “The wind and the heat really picked up on me and made it really difficult,” said Shih, who is now 2 shots behind Hsu with a 3-over par 147 after 36 holes.

The Hsin Chu Golf Country Club raised Huang Yu-Chen (黃玉珍) aced the 156-yard 2nd with her 7-iron, finished today’s round with just 1-over par and moved significantly up by 15 positions to a tie for tenth. That was her sixth hole-in-one in career, and the first in TLPGA Tour. “I think the last one was like over a decade ago in Japan Tour!” Huang said.

The winner tomorrow of the 2013 Technology Cup would take away a NT$600,000 prize.
