The world of golf is constantly seeking ways to speed up play for the convenience of TV scheduling and the interest of the general audience. New rules are in play in major professional leagues, such as the LPGA Tour, to restrict players’ preparation time before each shot. Spain’s seven-time Solheim Cupper Carlota Ciganda recently was called out again for her slow routine in a home tournament.
The TLPGA Tour is also assessing and testing a new “pace-of-paly” regulation this week at the Taiwan Mobile Ladies Open.
Groups or players will receive penalty shots after a first violation warning, and could be disqualified if they get four bad timings.
Former world no.1 Yani Tseng (曾雅妮) has been known for her efficient and clean routines and shot-making. The Taiwanese legend is still fighting to return to the top of her game after several hip surgeries. She made three birdies in the first round today to temporarily sit in equal 38th on 3-over 75.
Asked about the recent success of Tseng’s teenage friend, Taiwan PGA Tour champion Max Lee, who emerged as the recent LIV Golf Promotions winner and earned a precious full card to be on the 2025 LIV Golf tour, “I’m happy for him. This is such a great achievement,” Tseng said.
Now into his thirties, Lee became the first Taiwanese to earn a place on the fledgling but richly-funded elite professional tour. Tseng, 35, hopes she would see a resurgence in her career just like her friend, “I tried not to put too much pressure on myself, but I still have faith, and it is what keeps me going.”
To inspire the growth and development of young golf talents in Taiwan, the tournament, which is held at the Taifong Golf & Country Club in Changhua, invited junior golfers near the region to see the world-class event up close and live.
Tou-Bian Elementary School Golf Team manager Ms. Fu W-S. led ten of their young golfers, two coaches, and five parents to watch the first-round game today and she felt this is an awesome opportunity for the kids. “I cannot imagine how much this experience means to them. I’m glad and thankful the Taiwan Mobile and thr organizers gave us such a wonderful chance,” she said. |
